Token Economy
The economy is a temporary tool that provides maximum support and feedback to students in their initial phase, and then gradually and progressively moves toward an approximation of the general education programs; as the students’ skills and self-control develop to a point when more natural feedback conditions are effective. The token economy is a method to consecrate, both positively and negatively, those behaviors in which a student engages.
Classroom Teaching Strategies
Teaching Interactions are step by step plans for teaching social skills and enabling the token economy system to function. There are two categories of teaching interactions:
1. Specific Effective Encouragement is used to recognize and reinforce appropriate behavior.
2. Redirection/corrective teaching is used to recognize and address inappropriate behavior, teach alternate behavior, and reinforce appropriate behavior.
